2D turn-based JRPG

Solemn Knights: Entirely Ours is a role-playing game from Soft Hour Studios. This is a Western-made game that qualifies as a JRPG, with elements such as a massive pixel art world, turn-based strategic combat, and a wide cast of characters that make up this fantasy world. Join Thelonius, one of the valiant knights of Astoria, as he finds himself in a different world.

Solemn Knights: Entirely Ours (SK:EO) is a great tribute to the classic JRPGs of the previous decades, with its commitment to the visuals plus the chiptune music, much like Final Fantasy or OCTOPATH TRAVELER II.

Help a knight get home

Right off the bat, Solemn Knights: Entirely Ours has the makings of a classic JRPG, making it immediately endearing to fans of the subgenre. You have the pixel art style and the chiptune soundtrack that fits its fantasy premise. More importantly, it features an immersive story quite similar to the isekai anime subgenre, or those that deal with characters being sent to another world.

Also similar to most JRPG games, it features a wide cast of characters. The combination of playable and non-playable characters helps build the world, which fits well with its medieval themes and varying environment settings. You also have to choose who will accompany you on your journey, with different characters offering unique stories and gameplay advantages.

For a game with consistent retro vibes, it requires very low system requirements. SK: EO works with 1GHZ processors and only needs 256MB of RAM to run properly. As an independent title, it does have its share of bugs. These are just minor display and gameplay issues though, nothing game-breaking. For example, certain interactions cause the character to either disappear from the screen or temporarily get stuck.

A fitting tribute to classic RPGs

Whether you’re a fan of the original JRPGs or a young player looking for a minimalistic role-playing experience, Solemn Knights: Entirely Ours is a good place to start with. It ticks most boxes in the JRPG subgenre, all while offering a familiar yet original storyline. Its faithfulness to the retro feel also means that it works with potato setups. Recommended.
